Finding A Job | Maximize social networking sites

"Job fairs are great for making contacts, but career coaches say social networking sites can often be more productive."

One woman's story hit close to home for me, as my quest for new clients has brought similar results, and in about this same time frame:

" Out of work since November, Martinez has sent almost 200 resumes using online job sites but hasn't heard from any potential employers."

Why do I love blogging and social networks so much? They have both brought new insight into my freelancing, and to deeper relationships with both colleagues as well as potential customers.

" A quick game of six degrees of separation could land you a job."

42 Free Online Magazines for Designers | Graphics

This is an incredible list of design magazines. Talk about "free school"! The main reason I follow design mags online is because this is the cutting edge, ya'll. The art is happening almost in real time and following the mags makes it easier to keep up, visually. Tutorials are nice. Courses are nice. But the real learning happens visually. I keep a bookmark folder of the mags I follow, and try to drop in weekly or at least every month, just to gauge what's going on. This list just added to my folder, lol!

What Constitutes Fair Use In Articles? - A Reply Concerning Proper Writing & Proper Citation

I have posted a reply to this article, What Constitutes Fair Use In Articles? You can scroll down, or the actual link is:
http://tr.im/fairuseinarticles

I've been in online publishing now, for going on 10 years. It's a real concern to me, the quality of writing to be found "out there." It's a concern that much of that writing is not good quality. It's also a concern that, for millions of readers, perhaps the content they read is wrong or misinformed. A bit of attention to properly written and properly cited content would solve most of this problem.

More Tech Start-Ups Call It Quits - WSJ.com

Depressing news. But not unexpected. If, somehow, on a personal level, we can keep the fires of positivity burning, we *will* come out alright. I think even better than alright, as these times will teach us much about survival. The height of innovation, maybe? How to be the fittest, how to survive.

Introducing The 1WebDiva.com Blog: An Exploration Of Creativity And Unique Web

Well, it had to happen. The only thing that never changes is the fact that things change all the time! I have become [finally!] an ardent blogger. After a decade of publishing online... for OTHER people... I am now publishing for me. My lifelong love of all-things art is now going online, rapidly.

Here is my personal invitation to visit my new blog. I've spent a lifetime in career and personal goals with what kind of has become to be known as "branding." And yes, I guess that is what it is. But, it is simply focusing in on what makes you and/or your work UNIQUE. Custom. Handmade, hand built. Personalized and personal. What is truly YOU? This is what makes your mark in the world.

I am an admitted Photoshopaholic. It took a band of angels and an affidavit from God to drag me into the computer world in 1989. But God is a smart cookie. Once He got me to go INTO the Macintosh store in Denver... it took all of 20 minutes on a Mac, and Photoshop, to show this artist (we are so smug, aren't we?) an entire World and History of ART ... in a digital world. Real art. Handmade. Hand built. ART. Presented as if by magic, on what back then and even now, looks exactly like a television!

I was immediately engulfed in that magic. Type type here, and up HERE... ART. I have become so immersed over the years since 1989 that I took it into Education and became one of the first rung of online teachers... teaching ART to others. I built some of the earliest University Art courses. You might say: I was convinced.

Well... back to my 1WebDiva.com blog. If you take a small journey through the blog, you will find that every page "header" is a unique piece of artwork, geared to the theme or topic of the page. I wanted to impart both the page message, as well as the overall message that each piece of your online presence can speak to your reader in an illustration as well as text. Tying it all together with the look and feel of the blog, each piece is titled in gold on black, with rugged stone-like borders. This is a play of a modern tone of "Grunge" with my preferred style of realistic, photographic imagery. Most of the headers also contain small elements of previous artworks... yes, handmade, hand built, mixed-media works.

Enough chat. Here is a small gallery of these works. But again, please visit my blog! I would love to have you leave comments, or questions [which I WILL answer!] or suggestions [which I will ponder seriously, and most likely comment back].

Test Driving The Posterous Community Tool

Why is the first post in any blog SO difficult? Uncharted waters. Unknown monster in the closet. Stagefright!

So, I will send along pictures to introduce myself, I guess. These are from my album on Facebook, called the "I Never Take Pics" Album.

Don't laugh. I'm new here. NOT new to Internet... been up here since 1994 and I have several online businesses. No problems with images or multimedia or Flash. I just feel kinda silly talking about ME when there are so many other things to rant on about.
